KT Express Logistics Sdn Bhd is investing RM1 billion over five years to develop an e-commerce and logistics hub near the Malaysia-Thai international border in Bukit Kayu Hitam.
Its chief executive officer Datuk Affendi Mohamed Zain said the hub would play a significant role to enhance import-export activities via land at the border.
"With an estimated RM1 billion investment, this initiative shall turn Bukit Kayu Hitam as an international logistics hub in line with the Kedah Development Plan 2035.
"The project will be developed in three phases, beginning with the construction of a 60,000 sq ft warehouse in the first phase, followed by the development of a e-commerce terminal hub, integrated with green technology for the second phase.
"The terminal hub will integrate solar technology, robotics and automatic shipment system with a full tracking system.
"As for the third phase, we plan to complement the warehouse with an 'Automated Fulfilment Centre', a move which will facilitate our Small, Medium and Micro Enterprises in storage, export and import activities," he told reporters after signing a memorandum of agreement with Invest Kedah Bhd chief executive officer Muhamad Mahazi Ibrahim.
Present were Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Muhammad Sanusi Md Nor and state Industry and Investment Committee chairman Datuk Dr Ku Abdul Rahman Ku Ismail.
Sanusi said the investment would create a new prospect for future development in Kedah.
"This project will add value to the Kota Perdana Special Economic Zone in Bukit Kayu Hitam," he said. --BERNAMA
